The waiting list is maintained by the date and time a person applies, size of the family unit the person eligible for and any preferences the person qualifies for as well. Preferences for Section 8 include substandard housing, homeless, involuntary displacement, 50% of income spent on rent and utilities, Federal disaster, veteran status, disabled, elderly or handicapped.
The waiting list is dynamic and does not follow a progressive method. Public Housing is determined by bedroom size as well as time and date. Section 8 considers preferences as well as time and date. These factors cause the waiting list to change on a monthly basis.
